Mobilization Of Core Applications To Gain A Competitive Edge
Because of mobility, the workforce of today can communicate and collaborate from any location in real time. Until recently, businesses only used mobility for emails, calendaring and scheduling but now leading enterprises are mobilizing core business information and applications like customer relationship management (CRM), enterprise resource planning (ERP) and sales force enablement.
Whether it is mobilization of core work processes or bringing information for key decision making, it is a giant step forward for businesses. Companies can innovate and differentiate themselves from the competition by using core applications and data to be able to create core experiences that will be appreciated by both customers and employees.
In a recent ESG research study, 70% of the respondents consider effective mobility strategies as very important to their core applications and business processes to gain a competitive edge. Only about 17% of global respondents to a VMware survey have successfully carried out business mobility initiatives for the reengineering of core business processes but nearly two-thirds are active in reengineering or they are planning to reengineer their core business processes in order to achieve business mobility.
However, in the mobilization of core applications, security must be priority because the business will be opening up behind-the-firewall data for mobile access. Mobile security must be strengthened similar to the robust security in a data center. According to VMware, security of mobility is separate from the data center but a better approach is micro-segmentation.
Through micro-segmentation, IT can manage and secure the data center and mobile access simultaneously and control them from the same policy console. Afterwards, when they are placed in a mobile application management container, IT can deliver the business app ecosystem easily and securely. In terms of privacy, a scalable EMM platform will integrate all the existing enterprise systems to be managed through all devices regardless of type, platform or ownership from one console.
When a business undertakes business process reengineering, it creates a new value system and redesigns a workflow. When reengineering the business process, modern technology is often used for the dissemination of data and decision-making processes before the functional organization is altered to form functional teams.
